The severity of morning sickness for pregnant women varies. Serious cases of morning sickness, such as hyperemesis, can cause huge amount of weight loss, continuous vomiting and nausea. This condition needs to be treated with proper medication to ensure the mother's body is well-hydrated and that the baby receives enough nutrients from the mother.
For those who suffer from mild to moderate level of morning sickness, there are many home remedies that are effective in relieving morning sickness symptoms. If you suffer from constant nausea, whether or not you actually end up vomiting, have some ginger tea, ginger ale, ginger biscuits or ginger flavoured candies.
Do not consume huge amount of ginger as it has been known to induce a miscarriage, so take in small quantities and spread it out over a period of time rather than having all of them in one go. Take frequent meals but with smaller serving size for each meal. Do not leave your stomach empty for a long stretch of time as this may make the feeling of nausea worse.
Try dry toast first thing in the morning. Keep snack food well stocked-up and handy wherever you go, snack on some food whenever you feel the nausea is returning. Food high in protein content can stabilise your blood sugar and keep the morning sickness at bay, for example, try some yoghurt, cheese, beef jerky or hard-boiled eggs. Another handy trick is to mix one tablespoon each of apple cider vinegar and honey to a glass of cold water, take it just before you hit the bed.
Tart foods are also said to help in relieving morning sickness, such as citrus juice (lime. orange and lemon), lemonade, lime sorbet or fresh tomato juice. No one ingredient can absolutely guarantee a complete elimination of morning sickness. Therefore it's worth experimenting with the different remedies. It should not be difficult to find out which food works well for you.
You may find people trying to give you all sorts of advice on pregnancy's dos and don'ts, the best way to find out is to try them out at least once and see if it helps make you feel better. Sometimes your body is your best barometer. Listen to your body closely.
